Why is aol so slow 2018

In case you've missed previous editions of the column, it's a confessional in which readers share their stories of having broken stuff. This week, a fellow reader named "Bert" asked you to "Cast your mind back to the mids when America Online AOL was the biggest online service and the biggest Internet Service Provider. We had a whole five million users!

Bert was charged with keeping AOL email alive. A little over a year later Bert said AOL had "dozens and dozens of inbound Internet mail servers, and I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how I could keep them all in operation and advertised as available, without causing problems.

Truncated packets caused all sorts of problems, Bert told us, among them badly-out-of-balance loads. Although a small percentage, it was still a fairly large number. Something clearly had to be done. Thus, a. And so was b. Mail was flowing again without DNS truncation, and almost everyone was happy.

Those unhappy with Bert pointed out that he really needed a load balancing switch in front of the MXes. But Bert told us that "at the time the only one that existed had a single 10Base-T interface, and we had already graduated to using FDDI on the back-end of our mail servers because there was so much traffic. Today I can't send email.

Tech issues it reports. It is Christmas Eve however why not a message to that effect? I installed ISP. I reinstalled Juno, but it did not work. I installed Juno on an earlier computer and it worked except for the password.

When I installed dialer, Juno would not work at all. The computer now has a modem problem that it didn't have moments earlier. It appears that any computer with Aol dialer will have a modem problem. Aol will work, but no other Internet provider will. The user must continue with Aol and its problems or get buy another computer and start over. Aol totally quit, so I had to buy another computer. One morning I woke up to spam emails delivered in a 2 hour period.

In my shock and dismay I immediately deleted all the emails and in my panic deleted all my saved emails as well. I called AOL immediately and they told me not to worry all the emails can be retrieved within 7 days of deletion. That was two months ago. I called every day for two weeks and they always told me they were aware of the problem and I wasn't the only customer in the same situation.

It was being addressed by senior techs and they will contact me ASAP. They never did. I called yesterday and am now being told I am S. My emails are gone and that's the end of that. AOL once the absolute leader in email and online presence is now just a sad and pathetic shell which is obviously heading fast down the highway to oblivion. After 17 years as a loyal subscriber all I can say is "Thanks for Nothing". I had the misfortune to get involved with AOL Gold because I believed they were going to cut off my 9.

I was the dope who fell for this as others I know still running 9. All efforts to revert back to 9. I could not even reinstall AOL Gold with an experienced tech at my house. I kept it because of fav places. All efforts to import fav places into a browser, any browser not possible. Discussions with AOL indicated that all fav places were now part of their proprietary Gold software and no file available to import into ANY browser. This is beyond the pale and bad business practice.

If anyone has found a solution to importing favorite places into IE or any other browser, let me know. I've been with AOL for 20 years and it gets worse every day. Personnel aren't trained to figure out or help with anything. Their accounting dept has charged me for services I want discontinued. I spent over 60 hours and 5 days with AOL and my problems have still not been resolved. Their email program is very unreliable too. Everybody that uses them is very unsatisfied.

There is no customer service, there is no help for issues and I have now switched to another provider that is more secure and clear of scam.

You've fallen behind the times! AOL mail keeps going down daily. They make excuses on their FB and keep saying they are working hard which is not the case.

Trying to call customer service is a joke. Stop lying and saying to be patient. When you use AOL for a business there is no patience anymore. With all the competitors, you would think they would be good, but they don't care about their customers. AOL Customer service is a joke. Don't waste your time with people that either don't understand or don't care. Try it. Good Luck. AOL email was down 3 times in October I recently called and spoke to a Customer Service Rep about redundancy of extras and she was able to help me build a package of services customized to me at a lower and regular cost.

I was very pleased and happy. I have been paying a monthly subscription without my knowledge. I called in regards of and they just give a negative attitude. I been with AOL for more than 19 years.

I asked why, they only said, "You should it call before. Bad service and very little help. Purchased AOL gold. Paid but computer worked better before, Then purchased another fix it program from AOL to fix computer, still no better. One more 4. In looking through my planner in past 2 months I came up with 4 instances of 'issues'. The dates are: 1 too far back to find, didn't make an entry.

I go to 'Favorites' and while I can see the list I can't actually open any of them. I can go to another of the 7 AOL screen names and sign on there, only to get that white screen and 'Welcome" all over again.

So at this point I call AOL CS at , press 5 for Tech Support and talk to an agent in the Philippines who walks you through their taking over your computer via tech. Obviously you will be signing up for the service, just getting the first 30 days free and probably most folks forget to go back and cancel the program. I also seem to recall reading on some site that to cancel is hard to do.

I see from various complaint sites that AOL these days is mostly comprised of older people like me who have used the system for years and don't want to go to the bother to learn a new system. People have been leaving for years as AOL has gotten worse.

Maybe they put it out on a regional test basis, I wish they tested it elsewhere as it is very poor so far. Said they would cancel account but they never did. Email is all junk mail. They let spammers and scammers rule their servers. The service is a total junk and should be totally shut down. Now I am not able to delete the username and email due to technical difficulties.

Also, someone hacked my account and they didn't seem to care at all. I had nothing but problems. I got rid of AOL. I've taken notice especially the beginning of my searches on AOL like Stores or Products somehow stream on my Facebook account. It seems a bit strange and don't understand why? It seems like a new marketing strategy for some Company outlets?

Can you tell me why or how to stop this? The majority of Gold users probably have 4 Gigs or less. That's a big problem there. The other thing is whoever designed Gold modeled it after Wire Chat Yes, there are still mail problems with Gold, and I have had it since June Another turn off is now having to pay for AOL. When something's free for so long, then you start to charge for it, it's going to piss off your customer base.

Now, the average age of an AOL Member is in the 60's. In the 90's, it was 31 yrs of age. Back to RAM. If you want to keep Gold, you're going to need 8 Gigs for things to go smoothly. Some computers can be upgraded, some won't be able to, and you'll need to buy a computer updating it with 8 Gigs. Hope this helps.

It fails to load or present email many time telling me to wait 5 minutes. It is unreliable. It crashes. The "so called news" cannot be tailored to my preference and most of it is "snowflake garbage". Who cares! The default save format. Today, I noticed that there are almost two years worth of emails missing from each of my "new" and "old" files this, along with entire files have been lost before. In order to get all of my records back, I am now forced to go through a browser, and the AOL format is not familiar to me or as convenient.

Last year Verizon FiOS discontinued the email we have had for over 10 years. We were given "free" accounts at AOL owned by Verizon , retaining the 'verizon. Those statements earned the 1-star. Those accounts have been nothing but ever increasing trouble ever since.

AOL has never been reliable. Just sending or receiving email their only function has become harder and harder over the last few months. Constant error messages. Under Tools, Click E-mail accounts. Please type your user name password. Server: pop. I've made changes to the accounts per AOL, Verizon, and third-parties to no avail. The biggest benefit of this service is that it provides strong security to your data.
